Plastering of facades
One of the traditional technologies of renovation of building facades is the use of plaster for exterior work. This material provides buildings with aesthetic uniqueness, protection from the effects of the external environment. With a competent choice of plaster, performing professional work techniques, it will not only be possible to level the surfaces, mask irregularities, but also improve the thermal insulation of buildings.
Features of facade plaster
To date, there are many types of facade plaster, which includes: cement, sand, silicone, acrylic, etc. The durability and reliability of the finish depends on the quality of the plaster mixture. When choosing a coating, the level is taken into account:
- vapor permeability, filtration (to avoid mold, fungus)
- resistance to temperature drop
- resistance to mechanical and static load
- complexity of application
- environmental safety
Types of finishing mixes for facades
According to the composition and specific purpose of plaster is:
- cement
- silicate
- acrylic
- mineral
Cement mixture
Such a mixture ideally covers concrete, aerated concrete, brick bases without the addition of a substance that enhances adhesion. Finishing buildings with such plaster is possible even in places with a high humid climate. At the final stage, it may be painted with acrylic paints.
Silicate mixture
Silicate plaster is based on the so-called "liquid glass". It consists of an alloy of potassium and sodium, which makes it possible for the plaster to fit snugly on the insulating surface. Silicate plaster is electrostatic, it does not attract dust. With the help of various relief and shades, it is possible to implement various design projects, to achieve the identity of buildings. Unlike cement mix, silicate plaster is applied only on concrete and plasterboard planes. It requires preliminary ground treatment of surfaces.
The ready-to-use silicone plaster mixture is characterized by excellent elasticity. It is applied both manually and mechanically. Silicone plaster retains color for a long time, has no smell.
Silicate coating requires mandatory priming of the walls. It consists of:
- aqueous dispersion of synthetic resin
- fillers (marble chips, stones, sand)
Acrylic blend
Acrylic plaster is characterized by a wide choice of texture and color. The modifiers and plasticizers present in it make the mixture elastic and resistant to the effects of natural factors. Such a material is not replaceable when filling in flaws and tightening cracks. The acrylic plaster coating is easily washed off with water.
Mineral mixture
Mineral plaster consists of cement and minerals. This type of plaster adheres well to the walls, sets and dries quickly. Mineral plaster is distinguished by its special strength, fire resistance. The mixture is used for exterior and interior decoration. To improve the visual effect, after drying, the plaster is varnished. Mineral coatings are:
- textured
- structural
Tools for facade plastering
Competent professional finishing with facade plaster requires the presence of various tools and devices:
- plaster mixing stations
- scrapers, metal brushes
- punchers
- hammers, plumb lines, levellers
- corners, lighthouses
- trowels, shovels, spatulas and etc.
