Technologies for finishing slopes and corners

Slopes, openings, external and internal corners are one of the most problematic stages of finishing work. Failure to comply with the geometric standards of these devices leads to difficulties when laying tiles, installing built-in furniture and household appliances. Today there are a number of methods for finishing corners and slopes, and a large selection of the necessary materials.

Corners without reinforcement

In cases where the corners are not subject to heavy mechanical load, the option without the use of reinforcement is used. To plaster the outer (shallow) corner, a lath is attached to the mortar to the wall. Its edges should protrude beyond the thickness of the upcoming plaster coating. As soon as the solution sets, the lath is removed and the process is repeated on the remaining side of the corner. Using trowels of different configurations, external and internal corners are leveled. Working with trowels on both sides gives the surfaces a smooth finish. The process can be accelerated by using special wooden or metal templates. At the final stage, the rules are strengthened, the plaster composition is applied manually or by mechanized method, and the outline is stretched with a template.

Reinforcing protection of slopes and corners

These elements require the use of metal or plastic profiles, which are placed under plaster or putty. Perforated galvanized tapes have optimal cost and light weight. Plastic profiles are used in finishing arches due to their flexibility. They are recommended for use in damp areas. When impacted, the corners do not deform like aluminum ones and do not tear the plaster. But the most reliable protection can be provided by steel corners with mesh. They are produced using metal processing technology using a rolling machine, and are processed with zinc. Such profiles are durable. The counters act as beacon strips. They prevent cracks from appearing in the plaster thanks to a rigid reinforcing mesh. Adjacent profiles are attached to the slopes with adhesive bases. Another beacon is considered to be a steel corner. After applying the plaster composition, the mesh is embedded in it. Alignment is done using rules, patterns, spatulas.

Mechanized finishing of corners

  • typical initial stage: cleaning, priming, installation and fastening of beacons
  • follows: applying the solution in spots over the entire corner, with a distance of 25 cm
  • fastening the corner galvanized profile, leveling it with a level
  • filling the gaps under the profile and grid cells with the composition
  • removing excess plaster in the corners
  • sprinkling between beacons and corners
  • extension using the h-shape rule
  • trimming after setting
  • carrying out grouting, glossing, smoothing

Plastering slopes

Slopes are finished on well-secured boxes. Door and window slopes should be plastered after the frames are securely fastened and the cracks are covered with foam. In rooms, it is not advisable to place window slopes at right angles to the walls. It is worth making a slight bevel to make opening the frames easier. This happens using squares with markings. The corner formation algorithm consists of:

  • fastenings along the perimeter of the beacon slats
  • applying the composition and smoothing the bases after cleaning and priming
  • leveling plaster using slats
  • installing a steel angle for additional reinforcement
  • adjusting the profile with a level, which serves as a support for the reinforced corner
  • applying the composition and pressing the corner along the profile
  • laying additional covering, leveling it
  • dismantling the profile
  • using a second beacon in the form of an adjacent profile
  • installation of the upper corners is carried out according to a similar algorithm
