Reinforcement of concrete industrial floor

Reinforcement of concrete industrial floor

Concrete screed is the most practical, inexpensive and simple way to arrange floors at various facilities. Having a number of significant advantages, it is necessary to take into account the fact that concrete structures can crack and collapse. Such situations occur in rooms with increased loads on the floors. To increase their strength, it is necessary to use a sealer (topping). The hardening mixture makes it possible to improve the wear resistance and durability of coatings.

Why floors need to be protected

Why floors need to be protected

The basis of a highly loaded industrial floor is concrete. This provision is based on affordability, high strength, feasible coating installation technology. But artificial stone has a porous structure, a low degree of stretching, which, due to the heavy load, wear concrete. As a result, the structure begins to dust. Salt appears on the surface, leading to its destruction, i.e. erosion. In addition, without significant protection, industrial floors are unstable to chemical influences, have a careless appearance, crumble. If gasoline, oil or other liquids get on them, they are absorbed, leaving stains. Ordinary water is enough to destroy the upper layers of the coating. Such problems come from the physicochemical composition of concrete. It is a conglomerate compound that includes materials with different chemical compositions and parameters.

Improving the quality of concrete

It is impossible to completely change the structure of concrete. The way out suggests performing a number of tasks to significantly improve the performance of coatings. This process takes place on the basis of several technologies such as:

  • topping concrete, reinforcing powder composition is applied to a freshly prepared floor.
  • impregnation of mineral or organic ingredients, strengthening the structure of concrete.

Metallized topping

Metallized topping

The industrial hardener is a special mixture ready for use. Together with the strongest metal fillers, it contains highly active Portland cement. Their connection leads to the highest indicators of wear resistance and dustlessness.

Metal topping increases the density of the bases, improves frost resistance, maintains inertia to aggressive substances, moisture. After processing, the concrete is "not afraid" of fuel and water, its detachment is excluded. The system as a whole is implemented in a short time and at minimal cost.

There are a number of restrictions for metal toppings. They are not suitable for bases with high hygiene and neat appearance. Contact of such a hardener is undesirable with materials that are aggressive to the concrete coating. In cases of wet exposure, stains may appear on the floors, leading to corrosion.

Quartz toppings

Similar material is also presented in the form of dry formulations. They consist of plasticizers, high-quality cement, quartz sand. The treatment of the base gives hardening several times. Quartz toppings are in demand in the construction of garages, parking lots, workshops, warehouses and even on cargo platforms. Compared to the previous analogue, the hardener does not involve the installation of leveling layers. To the advantages, you can add an extensive selection of colors and shades, the probability of processing old and new bases. Floors with quartz protection are resistant to oils, can be repeatedly thawed-frozen.

Quartz materials also have a number of restrictions on their use. These are:

  • floors with periodic influence of acids and salts;
  • coatings where it is necessary to guarantee the maximum level of impact resistance and safety.

Corundum toppings

This material is characterized by the presence of dry hardeners consisting of corundum fillers and highly active Portland cement. Corundum topping is effective for compacting a concrete base that is subjected to abrasion, wear, and shock loads. It is inert to rust and stains. Corundum processing is appropriate in warehouses, machine shops, areas with electronic equipment. The material is in demand in parking lots, garage spaces, sidewalks. In terms of durability, corundum surpasses concrete floors by 5 times. Such bases will last a long service life, they are compacted, dust-free.

In which cases the use of corundum toppings is impractical

The material is not suitable for hygienic floors, coatings with maximum impact resistance and the possibility of exposure to aggressive substances incompatible with concrete.
